Heat Pumps

The Heat Pumps training is designed to provide experienced heating and plumbing engineers with the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commission and service of Heat Pump systems and deliver a certificate of competence. This Certificate of competence can be used by those who wish to apply to self-certify installations through Microgeneration Certification Scheme and NICEIC Installer and Competent Persons Scheme (or other government scheme operators).

Course Content:

  • Basic Design systems to make best use of the free energy from the earth and atmosphere.
  • Relevant Regulations and Legislation.
  • Design Layouts detailed options of the systems to meet the customer's needs.
  • Pre-survey Techniques and Installation Practices.
  • Commissioning and Service
  • Fault Finding and Controls


Prerequisites:

A recognised competence in unvented hot water and a conventional fuel, i.e. gas, oil, or solid fuel or a relevant plumbing qualification such as an NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience would be ideal. However, please ask if you are unsure, as with most training courses, success generally follows enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Course Length: 2 days.

Short courses are also available to cover the following qualifications, Unvented Hot Water, Water Regulations, Energy Efficiency, Solar Thermal Hot Water, Under Floor Heating, Domestic Electrical Installer (Part P).

All our qualifications are trade approved. All of our trainers and assessors will have had trade experience of at least 5 years and are fully qualified with the required teaching and technical qualifications.

Under Floor Heating


Under Floor heating is particularly well matched to green energy sources as it utilises low temperature water to heat properties. The Under Floor Heating training and assessment is designed to provide experienced heating and plumbing engineers with the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commissioning and service of Under Floor Heating systems and delivers a certificate of competence for individuals who wish to apply to self-certify installations through NICEIC Competent Persons Scheme.

Course Content:

  • Basic Design.
  • Relevant Regulations and Legislation.
  • Design Layouts detailed options of the systems to meet the customer's needs.
  • Pre-survey Techniques and Installation Practices.
  • Commissioning and Service.
  • Fault Finding and Controls.

Solar Thermal Hot Water


The Solar Thermal Hot Water training is designed to provide experienced heating and plumbing engineers the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commission and service of Solar Thermal Hot Water systems and deliver a certificate of competence. This Certificate of competence can be used by those who wish to apply to self-certify installations through Microgeneration Certification Scheme and NICEIC Installer and Competent Persons Scheme (or other government scheme operators).

Course Content:

  • Basic design of systems to make best use of the free energy from the sun.
  • Relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Solar Collectors, the different types of panels available.
  • Design layouts, detailed options of the systems to meet the customer's needs.
  • Pre-survey techniques and installation practices.
  • Commissioning and service.
  • Fault finding and controls.
