Gas Fitter Course Details

It is illegal to do gas work in the UK without being registered with Gas Safe Register. In order to join Gas Safe Register three basic criteria must be met by the applicant.
  • The applicant must have successfully completed a qualification that proves competence in generic work activities associated with fossil fuelled appliances, equipment and pipework installations.

  • The applicant must have undertaken "on the job training" for gas installation or maintenance work and have experience of gas work that has been carried out under the direct supervision of a Gas Safe Registered individual.

  • The applicant must prove competence in a set of assessments known as ACS. These are a series of appliance group related exams and practical tasks that for each separate part the applicant must achievement 100% success.

At BTSC we can offer you all of the required qualifications, including ACS, and even provide the "on the job training" and experience essential for new entrants into the gas industry.

When you contact us we can give you specific advice as to what qualifications and experience you will need to provide depending on your personal situation. The options are listed below.

For applicants with no trade qualifications or experience, we can offer a 4 week direct entry qualification, the Elementary Gas Certificate, issued by NIC Certification. This qualification provides all the in-centre training required by Gas Safe Register.

Once you have achieved a suitable qualification we can offer you the "on the job training" and experience. This would be delivered over an unspecified number of weeks dependant on your availability and successful work completion. We will provide the work and assist you to record the relevant evidence required by Gas Safe Register.

Once sufficient evidence of "at work training" and experience has been gathered we can offer you the ACS assessments required to allow a successful application to Gas Safe Register.

Our closely supervised, practical and hands-on learning means you could become one of the most highly qualified domestic gas engineers in the UK.

No previous gas experience is necessary.

Qualifications are all trade approved.

Short courses are also available to cover the following qualifications, Unvented Hot Water, Water Regulations, Energy Efficiency, Solar Thermal Hot Water, Heat Pumps (for hot water), Under Floor Heating and Domestic Electrical Installer (Part P).

Most qualifications are delivered via a 5 day module which can be taken either individually (one module at a time), or as continuous modules.

All of our trainers and assessors will have had trade experience of at least 5 years and are fully qualified with the required teaching and technical qualifications.

These details are checked and verified by C&G and NIC Certification on regular verification visits.
